AARP TN Recruits Veteran Caregiver and Author/Radio Host, Peter Rosenberger, to Contribute New Monthly Blog Articles to Reach Caregivers

In efforts to provide increased help to today's 65 million American caregivers, AARP Tennessee enlisted the help of fellow Tennessean and author/radio host, Peter Rosenberger, to contribute monthly blog postings of practical advice learned from his vast experience as a caregiving husband of twenty-seven years.

Nashville, TN (PRWEB) July 30, 2013

The number of Americans serving as a caregiver for a vulnerable loved one continues to soar as "Baby-Boomers" step into retirement status and, beginning on July 30, AARP Tennessee is drawing upon the unparalleled experience of one of their own - to offer wisdom gleaned from three decades of caregiving by launching a new monthly blog feature.

As his wife's sole caregiver through a medical catastrophe that includes 78 surgeries, multiple amputations, 60 physicians, 12 hospitals, 7 insurance companies, and $9 million in health care costs - author/radio host Peter Rosenberger brings a wealth of understanding to the journey faced by millions of Americans serving as caregivers.

“There are experts, and then there’s Peter Rosenberger,” states AARP TN director of community outreach, Tara Shaver. "Peter left expert decades ago, and went straight to leading authority on the issues facing today’s caregivers. He’s able to get right to the heart of the challenges and offer practical advice with the calm assurance of someone who’s faced relentless battles.”

Coining the phrase, “The Delta Doctrine,” after hearing a Delta flight attendant share what has become the overarching message of his caregiver outreach, Rosenberger simply instructs fellow caregivers to do what flight attendants tell passengers to do in the event of cabin pressure loss: “Put your mask on first before helping others.” His blog postings will provide readers with detailed and easy to follow steps on what it looks like to ” …put the mask on yourself first.”

That message remains prevalent through his weekly radio show, which airs on Clear Channel’s 1510 WLAC in Nashville - and that same concept is peppered throughout his speaking events and his new book, Wear Comfortable Shoes - Surviving and Thriving as a Caregiver.

“AARP certainly recognizes the issues of today's caregivers, and I am grateful and honored they connect so well to my message,” Rosenberger shared. “Together, we're extending the helping hand of experience to those who are buckling under this strain - and providing them with a simple path to ease their burden, help them breathe a bit easier, and even lighten their hearts with a bit of laughter.”

“One of the most engaging factors of working with Peter is his terrific sense of humor,” adds Shaver. “His amazing comedic flair is in stark contrast to the tragic issues faced by his family.” AARP TN director of communications, Karin Miller, agrees. “He transitions seamlessly from deep empathy to hilarious moments that cause us to burst out laughing. That comedy and compassion, along with his vast reservoir of wisdom, will serve as drink of cool water to the weary and parched hearts of his fellow caregivers."
