This is Tamworth --
ANOTHER criminal was caught in the act thanks to a crime-fighting Atherstone town centre initiative.
At around 3.30pm on Wednesday, July 17, security staff from the Co-Op in Station Street, Atherstone, used their Townwatch radio in order to notify CCTV operators of a male who was leaving the store with an item he had not made payment for.
Security officers detained the male under the watchful eye of Atherstone CCTV and escorted him into the security office within the store.
PCSOs Liz Udall and Ashley Wynder heard the report over the radio link and attended the store soon after.
Once in attendance, the officers took the males details and checked for any previous criminal convictions via the PNC (Police National Computer).
Store staff recovered the item the male had attempted to steal and after agreeing to pay for it, the male was escorted from the building by police.
An immediate ban was issued to the male which prevents him from entering any Co-op in the local area.
As a Townwatch member, the Co-op also forwards the relevant details to Warwickshire Retail Crime Initiative who will, at the next quarterly meeting, ask members if they require the male banned from all Townwatch premises.
Should members decide on this, the male will be notified.
Any business in Atherstone which would like to get involved with the Townwatch scheme should call PCSO 6207 Liz Udall on 01827 719297. Reported by This is 2 days ago.
