Phoenix radio stations stay on air after lightning hits Rio Salado studios

Lightning hit Rio Salado College’s headquarters building in Tempe this morning. The building also houses National Public Radio affiliate KJZZ-FM 91.5 and classical station KBAQ-FM 89.5. Bill Shedd, associate general manager for the two public stations, said the lightning strike resulted in the building and radio studios being evacuated for about an hour, but the both FM stations stayed on the air. “We never went off the air,” said Shedd.
