Hair Body and Sol Salons of San Diego, California takes on the "last frontier" by opening their newest boutique salon in Ketchikan, Alaska.

(PRWEB) August 31, 2014

Hair Body & Sol adds a new member to the HBS Salon Family this month, HBS SERENDIPITY. What’s adventurous about this new salon is that HBS Serendipity is located in Ketchikan, Alaska, with the other HBS Salons being located in San Diego, California.

Beth and Brian Whitfield were high school sweethearts where they grew up in a small mountain town in the Appalachian mountains of North Carolina. The two were married just a few months after graduating high school and the Marine Corps took them to the West Coast, and they have called San Diego home ever since.

Juggling college and 5 part-time jobs between them certainly proved to be a challenge, yet Beth still wanted to pursue the American dream.

“I wouldn’t take ‘no’ for an answer. No one was willing to lease a retail space, much less a new development space, to girl with no experience and a thick southern accent. I saw a ‘coming soon’ sign for a big development driving home one day and I knew I had found my salon’s home. The landlord thought otherwise, yet after months of numerous rejections I secured the location. I think they gave me the lease just to shut me up so I’d leave them alone!” said Beth.

It didn’t take long for Beth and Brian to turn Hair Body & Sol into one of the most sought after salons in San Diego. So they decided to expand their family with more locations. Next came HBS Revolution in Carlsbad, California, and most recently, HBS Serendipity in Ketchikan, Alaska. Ketchikan is a beautiful island city in the Ketchikan Gateway Borough of Alaska, the southeastern most city in Alaska.

In addition to running four businesses (three salons and Brian also has another business, non hair related, Pacific Coin Exchange, a precious metals retail store in Carlsbad, California) Brian has been an associate professor for the last 14 years, teaching in both the computer and business departments, he writes a daily blog covering current events as they relate to the precious metals industry and had his own radio talk show called “Financial Fortress”.

Beth manages the salons with all 32 of the HBS stylists, taking clients at both San Diego salons and now also taking clients in Alaska. Beth is a Premiere National Color Educator for John Paul Mitchell Systems, editorial hair and make up artist, published in numerous fashion magazines, including Vogue. Beth has done hair and makeup for various productions, and was a featured artist in a series of hair training DVD’s. She was also a finalist at the prestigious North American Hairstyling Awards in her first year entering. Beth’s work is a direct reflection of her passion for fashion and all things beautiful.

“We have a lot of love to give and we love our HBS Family. We can’t wait to share it in Ketchikan. I couldn’t be more excited!” says Beth. “It’s going to be a challenge for sure, what in this life worth having isn’t?”

When asked about Ketchikan Beth replied, “You can’t help but fall in love with Ketchikan, if for no other reason than the people of Ketchikan. We have met some amazing people there and the island is breathtaking. We are so blessed! Our goal for our new boutique salon is to bring southern hospitality, a little southern California style and a lot of HBS passion for beauty to the already beautiful Ketchikan.”

In Ketchikan, HBS Serendipity will maintain the integrity of the HBS brand by having only the most highly trained and educated stylists, or “hair artists” as they are called at Hair Body and Sol. At HBS Serendipity, the Beth and Brian want to go even further to help the community by sharing and featuring local artist’s paintings and wearable art at the salon to showcase and sell.

Sharing is the culture of HBS salons. Not only with the company’s infrastructure, but with the footprint that is left behind for our children and communities. “We understand that our operations cannot exist separately from the community and the world in which we do business. We strive to make a difference every day by making smart environmental choices as well as supporting causes that care for humankind and our animal neighbors,” stated Brian Whitfield.

If the talented stylists of the HBS salons aren’t enough, the rotation of displays of paintings, crafts and the artwork coupled with the mix of fashionable boutique items and beauty supplies helps to create a refreshing and modern new look that differentiates HBS salons from all the rest and will have you coming back time after time.
