Radio Free America Leverages Indiegogo to Crowdfund a New and Improved Online Radio Platform

New features include the ability for stations to archive content, users to browse archives and new tools to improve engagement between Stations, DJs, bands and listeners.

Denver, CO (PRWEB) December 02, 2013

Radio Free America has announced that they will seek crowd funding through Indiegogo to build their new platform providing online streaming radio tools to stations, DJs, bands and listeners. New features include the ability for stations to archive content, users to browse archives and new tools to improve engagement between Stations, DJs, bands and listeners.

“With the new Radio Free America platform, we are providing a tool that will help independent and college radio stations and their DJs compete with the larger mainstream resources,” says Kenneth Pushkin, CEO of Radio Free America. “By providing these tools, more stations will be able to reach more listeners, bringing greater exposure to bands and other talented contributors, and we feel this is something that will resonate with the IndieGogo audience”.

Included in the new service are tools allowing stations to archive and replay content, stream to a larger audience, and gain information on their listening audience in a more precise way than terrestrial radio can provide. DJs will also have the opportunity to engage their listeners live and in real-time during their shows, providing various community-building tools and resources. Listeners will have a broader choice of independent radio stations and DJs - both live and archived, available online and with the mobile app - creating an environment of discovery.

Regarding the value of personal musical curation and the celebration of college DJs in these times of pre-programmed algorithms, KUNM DJ and former station manager David House quotes “There is so much media available out there right now…but still to have somebody to help you pick and choose….the human factor is always big.” Tristan Klum, Program Director at KUNM agrees, adding “I’m excited about Radio Free America because It solves some problems that stations like mine have. Archiving, analytics, and the audience engagement tools help us compete for listeners with for-profit stations.

The Indigogo campaign is scheduled to launch November and run the full 60 day allotment. Radio Free America endeavors to raise $75,000 for platform and build fees so that they can keep the service free to independent stations, DJs and listeners.
