Today, Apple officially announced the launch date for iTunes Radio. The long-awaited music streaming service will be available on September 18, in conjunction with the iOS7 update.
A competitor to services like Spotify, Rdio, Pandora, and Google Play Music All Access, its centerpiece is playlists or "stations" based on the music that already exists in users' personal libraries, generated from iTunes' entire catalogue. "So the more you use iTunes Radio and iTunes, the more iTunes Radio knows what you like to listen to — and the more it can play music you'll love," the iTunes Radio site says.
It will also feature genre-based stations and more. If you're listening on an iPhone, you can make requests using Siri.
The service is free and supported by ads, unless you subscribe to iTunes Match, in which case there are no ads.
iTunes Radio will be available on all Apple devices and within iTunes on Windows-based devices. Reported by Pitchfork 6 hours ago.
