This is Cornwall --

A Cornish language radio station which has a dedicated band of listeners all over the world has launched a bid to raise £5,000 to pay for a new website.

Radyo an Gernewegva is hoping an innovative fundraising platform which persuades individuals to stump up some cash will help them hit their target.

The half-hour programme, which has 800 listeners a week from across the world, including Mexico, Australia and America, has already received support from over 100 people and is more than half way to reaching its goal.

Matthew Clarke, director at Kernow Pods, the business behind the Cornish radio station, said they had just over a week to secure the cash.

"To continue the growth of the Cornish language after the last decade, which has seen the dialect grow from near extinction, we need to build an exciting and engaging website that gives a real home to the Cornish language," he said.

"The site will celebrate Cornwall, the spoken word and those who wish to keep our Cornish culture alive.

"We have nearly reached our target – but we still need people to pledge to support us so we can finish our Crowdfunding campaign."

Phil Geraghty, managing director of Crowdfunder UK, said: "We are really proud to see this most Cornish of projects as part of Crowdfund Cornwall.

"Crowdfunding is a great way for any community to protect its heritage and attract a new audience as well as raising much-needed funds."
