On Tuesday May 14th, 2013, Elizabeth Gordon, host of Burr & Forman's Results Matter radio on Business RadioX® was joined in-studio by Madeline Reamy, Executive Director of EarthShare of Georgia and Beth Bond, the Curator of Green and Sustainable Business News at Southeast Green to talk about sustainability in Georgia and the Southeast.
Madeline discussed her work with EarthShare of Georgia, explaining that they are a non-profit that raises funds through employee giving programs for a network of more than 70 environmental organizations dedicated to conserving and protecting our air, land and water. Since coming to EarthShare of Georgia she has helped secure new employee-giving campaigns with Cox Enterprises, the Atlanta office of Accenture, Acuity Brands, Arnall Golden Gregory, Habif, Arogeti & Wynne and many others, while developing strong partnerships with business leaders for EarthShare of Georgia’s annual Earth Day events and marketing initiatives.
Beth Bond joined the conversation to talk about the differences in terminology between green, sustainable, and environmental. Beth explained that the term sustainable is usually used by corporations who are working under the “people, planet, profit” ideology whereas “environmental” is usually used by nonprofits and “green” has become the terminology in the retail and consumer sectors.
Madeline and Beth both talked about the progress being made in Georgia and the Southeast as well as some of the problems that still exist and Beth explained the mission of her organization, Southeast Green, to get the word out about green, sustainable, and environmental work being done here in Atlanta and in the Southeast.
