The Georgia Chapter of the Healthcare Information Management and Systems Society (GA-HIMSS) provides statewide leadership for the advancement and management of healthcare information and technology. Collectively, HIMSS represents more than 40,000 individual members across the country – with GA-HIMSS encompassing over 1600 healthcare IT professionals – including many CIOs from the state’s largest hospitals and healthcare facilities. GA-HIMSS is dedicated to improving Healthcare IT locally through advocacy, collaboration and education, and to ensure quality patient care throughout the state of Georgia.
Happening September 26, 2013 at the Georgia World Congress Center, GA-HIMSS will host the 8th Annual Healthcare Trade Faire and Regional Conference. Christopher Kunney serves as the President of the Georgia Chapter of HIMSS and will be speaking at this year's conference. In explaining the reason for selecting Atlanta as a host city for the Healthcare Trade Faire, Kunney said, "Atlanta is touted now as the Healthcare IT capital of the country." The conference is a day-long event of keynote speakers, exhibitors and break-out sessions focused on healthcare IT, medical processes, compliance and liability, and more.
One of the conference speakers will be Jack Kolk, President and CEO of ACR2 Solutions. Kolk explained that the HITECH Changes to the HIPAA privacy and security rules are now law. Many health care organizations and providers are just getting wind of the significant changes, perhaps most significantly to the updated requirements with their business associates and their compliance requirements. According to Kolk, "The session will also discuss the new definitions of breach, business associates and more of the changes that became law on March 26, 2013."
