![The Voice radio given FM frequencies by Ofcom]()
This is North Devon -- NORTH Devon's local digital radio station is set to launch on FM this autumn. The Voice has been granted a full time FM licence and will soon be available over the airwaves across North Devon. The news follows a long campaign by the station, which first started broadcasting on DAB in April 2012. It was around that time The Voice learned from Ofcom it would be granted an FM licence, but it's only this week it's learned what frequencies it will be able to broadcast on, and when it can start doing so. In a post on Facebook The Voice's breakfast show host and programme director Paul Hopper revealed how come August the station will be available on 106.1 and 107.8 FM. He said the first of those frequencies would cover Barnstaple and surrounding areas, as far as South Molton, while the second would serve Bideford and Ilfracombe. Ilfracombe resident Leo Cooper, 29, was excited by the news. "This is genuinely fantastic news," he said. Leo said he thought the area has been poorly served by "local" stations based outside of North Devon. "It's impossible to overstate the importance of proper local radio for North Devon," he said. "We deserve it. "I'm delighted the hard work has paid off. Despite the digital world we live in, FM is still king so what a boost this is for our area."
