Teens Nail “SkyMall Humor” With Song Entry

SkyMall, the company behind the famous in-flight catalog and on-line collection of unique products, today announced the winners of its “I Love SkyMall” video contest.
If you have ever sat on a plane and flipped through the SkyMall Catalog, you’ve seen the products for sale – ranging from the practical to the quirky, stuff you never knew you needed: a bluetooth paper towel holder, a robot that cleans your grill, a garden Yeti. SkyMall launched an “I Love SkyMall” contest recently to find out what is most engaging about the brand.
Hundreds of people submitted original videos in the “I Love SkyMall” contest for a chance to win a Sony® prize package and other SkyMall products.
The winning video, which has just been announced, was written and directed by Jennifer Eliason of Lawrenceburg, Indiana, and features her daughter, Avery Eliason, and a friend, Justen Jette. The video can be seen at ilove.skymall.com.
“My husband and I fly a lot with our kids, so we were already familiar with SkyMall ,” Jennifer said. “Most of the products are serious, but a lot of them are funny. My kids and I went through the catalog and picked our favorite items for the song. It was a half-hour laugh fest.”
In the video, Avery and Justen wander through a discount department store, singing about how much more interesting SkyMall’s products are:
“I was getting’ really bored with the same ol’ shopping scene / but then I discovered SkyMall Magazine / If you’re feelin’ thirsty you can buy a cup that’s fruity / If you’re feelin’ hoochie, you can buy a big fat bootie.”
“The SkyMall team loved the videos,” said Jinine Martin, Director of Marketing for SkyMall. “We had a great time going through the submissions. This one stood out as it epitomized the fun part of our brand, and it was original and creative.”
Performing original songs is nothing new for Avery and Justen, who are members of the teenage band Jetset Getset, which was named by the Country Music Association among the “Who New to Watch” in 2013. Jennifer Eliason has written several songs for the band, as well as jingles for TV and radio commercials. Of all the songs she has written, “I Love SkyMall” is arguably the funniest.
“It feels great to be the top winner of the SkyMall video contest because it means that SkyMall gets our special brand of humor,” Jennifer said.
