Apple Plans to Buy Radio-Podcasting App Swell for $30 Million (Report)

Apple is close to a deal to buy the radio and podcast app Swell, which assembles talk programs into personalized streams, for about $30 million, Re/code reported.

Much of the Swell team is to join Apple, Re/code said. Apple and Swell did not respond to TheWrap's requests for comment.

Swell's early investors include DFJ, Google Ventures, InterWest Partners, Draper Nexus Ventures, and Correlation Ventures. Seed investors include Charles River Ventures, a16z seed and Inspovation Ventures.

The acquisition would follow Apple's recent acquisition of the audio company Beats and the reading recommendation service BookLamp. Apple already has an in-house podcast app, but as Re/Code notes, it has earned only 1.5 stars out of 5 at the company's app store.
