If you have a house in the Bay Area, Sungevity has a 3-D model of your home sitting in its computer servers, along with designs for solar panels on the roof. The fast-growing Oakland solar company on Wednesday will unveil a system capable of instantly generating designs - and price quotes - for prospective customers. The system relies on lidar - similar to radar, but using laser beams instead of radio waves. The company then used its proprietary software to design solar panel configurations for each home.
