Super Shoes and SKECHERS joined forces with the Cumberland, MD HRDC (Human Resources Development Commission) to host a block party on June 7th. This event was free for children involved in the Head Start Program, as well as the children from neighboring elementary schools. SKECHERS brought more than 1400 pairs of shoes to this event to give away.
According to Matt Willard, the VP of Marketing for Super Shoes, “Super Shoes has been a part of the Cumberland community for over 50 years – giving back was an incredibly rewarding experience. SKECHERS’ support of underprivileged youths is tremendous; and Super Shoes was honored to be partnered with SKECHERS for this wonderful event. There was a great turnout, with hundreds of children painting and decorating their new BOBS. It was a meaningful day; and we were so proud to be there. Special thanks goes to the Cumberland HRDC for all of their efforts coordinating the entire event.”
The South End Street Fair included various food and treat vendors, kid’s activities, bike helmet giveaways, and an art school bus from the Allegany Arts Council. The event was covered by a local radio station, Magic 100.5 FM, and live music was provided by local musical group Two Jolly Hearts and Fort Hill High School in Cumberland who brought their high energy steel drum group called Sentinel Steel. They played songs with steel drums and other island instruments.
Shoes that weren’t given away during the event were donated to the HRDC to distribute to the community as they see necessary. Cumberland, MD has experienced an economic downshift in recent years, with many parents struggling to provide for their children. Approximately 90% of the children invited to the event are part of a meal subsidy program. The donations from SKECHERS will outfit these very children with safe, versatile footwear that has been properly fit, with no charge to the families.
Another Super Shoes representative said, “We saw shoes with the soles coming unattached and kids that were in desperate need of new footwear. As a company, we are so excited that we were able to partner with BOBS from SKECHERS to provide them with safe shoes to wear this summer.”
To date, SKECHERS has given away over 8 million pairs of BOBS since they started they started making the BOBS line in 2011. One of the BOBS from SKECHERS promo lines is “Make a difference for kids.” This was the first BOBS event that Super Shoes hosted and the first in Cumberland, MD.
“Having grown up in and around Cumberland, Md., I was elated to hear of this event and thrilled that my company, Super Shoes was partnering with SKECHERS and BOBS to give back to my community and to help as many children as possible. As a volunteer, it was gratifying to see families with children of all ages stop by our canopies, be fitted for their shoes, decorate them and proudly walk away wearing their new shoes designed by them! It was an honor to have taken part in the BOBS movement and to help make a difference for kids.” - Dana Sneathen, VP/CFO Reported by PRWeb 1 hour ago.
