Has Been Optimized
The HGTV network pulled a proposed home improvement series yesterday that would have starred brothers David and Jason Benham.
David has a long history of activism, which includes opposing gay marriage and abortion that was recently publicized, leading HGTV to axe their upcoming show "Flip it Forward."
RightWingWatch.org reported that David led a controversial prayer rally (attended by Jason) outside of the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, N.C. in 2012. At the time, David told a Christian radio show (audio below) the rally was to stop “homosexuality and its agenda that is attacking the nation” and “demonic ideologies taking our universities and our public school systems.”
David has also led protests outside abortion clinics, which he referred to as “the gates of hell” (video below).
The Anti-Defamation League noted that David called an Islamic center a "den of iniquity" and referred to Muslims as "the enemy attacking" America.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the Benham brothers recently posted a statement (about HGTV dumping their show) on their website:
Our faith is the fundamental calling in our lives, and the centerpiece of who we are. As Christians we are called to love our fellow man. Anyone who suggests that we hate homosexuals or people of other faiths is either misinformed or lying...
We were saddened to hear HGTV’s decision. With all of the grotesque things that can be seen and heard on television today you would think there would be room for two twin brothers who are faithful to our families, committed to biblical principles, and dedicated professionals. If our faith costs us a television show then so be it.
However, there was no mention by HGTV about the Benham brothers' religious faith.
