July 1: L.A. Mayor-elect Eric Garcetti has invited "El Mandril" to the inauguration ceremony.
Los Angeles, California (PRWEB) June 17, 2013
The Spanish-speaking morning drive show hosted by Ricardo Sanchez - "El Vacilon del Mandril" - has bested Ryan Seacrest's ratings in the Los Angeles market.
Becoming the number one radio personality in L.A. is a remarkable accomplishment in itself - it's even more noteworthy when one considers that Sanchez got his start in the radio business on the ground floor, literally. His first job in a radio station was as a janitor. Sanchez took his opportunity to discover his talent in front of the microphone, starting with recording local commercials and station promotional spots.
A chance opportunity put him on-air, in small parts. A creative Sanchez conveyed a witty style that lead him into a full time, on-air role, eventually to be lured away from Tijuana to Los Angeles' KLAX 97.9FM "La Raza" in 2002, and then to a morning spot on KBUE ("La Que Buena"). Southern California took to his hip, wisecracking, joke-telling style, and, currently at KLAX, 97.9, developed a large and loyal following which helped him surpass most English-language radio stations; Sanchez became one of the most popular DJs in Los Angeles.
Sanchez remembers his roots, through creation of the Mandril Foundation, http://www.mandrilfoundation.org. The Foundation focuses on good works, offering support in various ways for families in needs, including fundraising events, food pantry donations, help with medical care for families with terminally ill relatives, and legal support.
According to Sanchez, "This has been a thrilling and fulfilling journey. So many experiences, so much I am now able to share with others. I am humbled by the faith others have in me and thankful for the blessings I've received."
Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, who will officially take his post July 1, has developed a strong relationship with Sanchez. "El Mandril" was the first radio interview - including English speaking shows - Garcetti visited after election; Garcetti visited the show once before the election, and he has vowed to return to the show "every six months."
Currently syndicated nationally in 25 markets across the U.S. and on MegaTV via DirecTV, the show also tops the list of Spanish speaking morning drive shows in San Diego and San Francisco.
Ricardo Sanchez "El Mandril" - translated as "The Chuck" or "The Baboon" - Radio Show can also be heard from 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., Monday through Friday via Ustream reaching over 1 million fans everyday: http://www.ustream.tv/new/search?q=el%20vacilon%20mandril. Reported by PRWeb 34 minutes ago.
