NRA Board Member Calls Newtown Families ‘Prop’ Used By Gun Control Advocates

A member of the National Rifle Association's board of directors and head of the NRA’s New Jersey affiliate told a radio show this week that families of Sandy Hook school shooting victims are being used as “a prop” to limit gun magazine size.
Scott Bach spoke on the pro-gun radio show Cam & Company Wednesday about a bill proposed in New Jersey that would limit magazine capacity 10 rounds.
Bach said Democratic supporters of the bill want to make GOP Gov. Chris Christie "uncomfortable because of the emotional component."
“I mean, look, they do want to keep the pressure on Gov. Christie,” Bach said. “They want to put him in a corner. They want to make his squirm.”
“They brought out the Newtown victim’s family,” he added, “and frankly used them as a prop or a show. One reporter, who was reporting seriously on it called it the ‘festivity.’ I couldn’t believe they used that language.”
Mark and Jackie Barden (pictured) appeared during a news conference at the New Jersey statehouse Tuesday asking legislators to pass the new gun control measure. The Barden’s 7-year-old son Daniel was killed by shooter Adam Lanza who was using 30-round magazines.
Nicole Hockley, who lost her 6-year-old son, Dylan, told reporters, “If those magazines had held 10 rounds instead of 30, forcing the shooter to reload many more times, would my son be alive today?”
New Jersey Democratic Assembly Majority Leader Louis Greenwald, who sponsored the bill, blasted Bach’s comments.
"Mr. Bach's heartless and offensive comments about the parents who lost their children to senseless and tragic gun violence in Newtown are the lowest of the low," he said. "Mr. Bach's statements, which suggest that somehow these families should not have a voice in this debate, are truly offensive, shocking and wrong."
