Rep. Louie Gohmert Anti-Gay Law

Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant (R) signed the controversial Mississippi Religious Freedom Restoration Act yesterday.

Opponents say the law allows legal discrimination against LGBT people in the name of religious freedom, reports CBS News.

The new law allows businesses to have "religious beliefs." That means a company could use its "religious beliefs" to discriminate against gay people.

The bill doesn't go into effect until July 1, but Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) celebrated it yesterday on the Family Research Council's "Washington Watch" radio show, noted RightWingWatch.org (audio below).

“Governor [Bryant], we are so proud, you have set such a wonderful example of real freedom," said Rep. Gohmert.

"You’ve seen it first hand, there is nobody more intolerant in this country than those that are screaming for tolerance," added Rep. Gohmert.

"...These people that have their leftist agenda that are so intolerant so thanks for having the courage to stand up."
