Popular Perry Spiller quits Signal Radio for the BBC
This is Staffordshire --

DJ PERRY Spiller has quit Signal Radio's breakfast show – after being poached by rival Radio Stoke.

The 44-year-old stunned Signal 1 listeners yesterday by revealing his decision to join BBC Radio Stoke.

Perry, of Baddeley Green, had not featured on the breakfast show with co-host Louise Stones for the last two weeks.

Now he will host the 10am to 1pm slot on Radio Stoke from June 17, with current presenter Lee Thomas taking up a position as a news reporter.

It means Radio Stoke has still to announce a permanent replacement for DJ Paula White on weekday afternoons after she was controversially moved to a Saturday morning slot.

Father-of-two Perry arrived in the Potteries after hosting a show with Wolverhampton-based Wolf FM.

He said: "The last four years presenting the breakfast show have been so much fun and we have had a great laugh, but for some years I have wanted to something different. I'd like to talk with people from all walks of life, find out what they have to say and really give a platform to hear their great stories – and that means radio with more speech.

"So as soon as I was approached to work at BBC Radio Stoke to present The Mid Morning Show, I jumped at the chance.

"I still get to stay in this fantastic area – a place my two young children and I now call home– and I carry on broadcasting to the most enthusiastic and loyal people I have yet encountered in 17 years of doing radio. I can now really dig beneath the surface and talk to people about the issues, hopes and fears which affect them most."

Radio Stoke managing editor Gary Andrews said: "I've been a fan of Perry's for a while and I'm delighted he's joining our team of talented personalities. His ability to entertain, engage you in conversation and make you smile will fit in really well."

Signal's breakfast show producer Aaron Roscoe has temporarily stepped in as Louise's sidekick.

Louise, aged 39, who has hosted the show for 12 years, said: "We have had a great time together and the time has just flown by. I have met up with him since he left and so nothing will change, we'll still see each other. We are really good friends and we have been there for each other with things going on off the show."

DJs are now applying to co-host the Signal breakfast show.

Senior programme controller Chris Buckley said: "We have had a lot of fun with Perry and he has been a great part of the breakfast team. We have had a lot of interest in the position. I am particularly excited about a couple of names and look forward to meeting one in particular." Reported by This is 13 hours ago.
