Weekly military talk show continues audience growth and expansion with flagship upgrade to WOOD 1300 AM & 106.9 FM. Now heard in Seattle on AM 770 KTTH.

It was in October 2006 when a recently separated U.S. Air Force 1st LT named Josh Leng, approached a trusted friend of his, retired U.S. Army Lt. Col Denny Gillem, with the idea of creating an hour long Veterans Day special to air on WOOD radio.
That broadcast, called "A Colonel’s Salute To Veterans," was well received and would later be recognized as a 2006 "Best In Category" News Special by the Michigan Association of Broadcasters.
Former military Officers Gillem and Leng continued working together and created the weekly program, "Frontlines of Freedom," which launched in June 2007 on WOOD radio.
During a period of changes in 2009, Frontlines of Freedom was forced to find a new radio home, but the show continued production and continued to grow.
Fast forward more than four years, and things are coming full circle for Frontlines of Freedom and Clear Channel Media & Entertainment-owned WOOD radio as they announce their reunion, effective June 1, 2013.
"Six years ago my co-founder and I created Frontlines of Freedom on WOOD radio. 1 June is the show’s six year anniversary." said Frontlines of Freedom Host, Colonel Denny Gillem. "It’s a great honor to be returning to our roots at the finest station in West Michigan."
WOOD radio led all Grand Rapids market radio stations in the Fall 2012 ratings period with the highest listener share rating for persons ages 12 and older.
Phil Tower, Director of News & Content-Programming for NEWSRADIO WOOD 1300 AM & 106.9 FM, remarks that, "Few persons are held in such high regard as the men and women of our military, so its a natural fit to welcome Frontlines of Freedom back to our WOOD radio lineup."

Frontlines of Freedom Host Lt. Col. Denny Gillem is a graduate of West Point and is an Airborne Ranger; he served 22 years in the US Army, including two tours in Vietnam, where he earned seven awards for valor and two Purple Hearts. He also served as a Mideast War Planner and later ran the ROTC program at The University of Tampa.
Colonel Gillem credits Frontlines of Freedom’s growth to a newly dedicated focus by his syndicator, Talk Media Network, stating, "This year is proving to be a great one for Frontlines of Freedom. We received two "Best In Category" awards from the Michigan Association of Broadcasters, we have grown from a 1-hour a week show to two-hours, and we’re adding new affiliates all over the U.S."
Frontlines of Freedom debuted two weeks ago in Seattle, Washington on AM 770 KTTH, and airs on Sundays from 5 to 6 a.m. Colonel Gillem will also analyze military news and issues for KTTH’s Bonneville International sister station, KIRO Radio 97.3 FM.
"It’s a privilege to present Frontline of Freedom to our KTTH audience," said KTTH Program Director Jason Antebi. "With such a strong military presence in Western Washington, so many of our listeners have a connection to the Armed Forces and it’s an honor to offer them such a respected resource in Colonel Gillem."
