Audi and AT&T announced new data plans for the upcoming 2015 A3 sedan, which is due to arrive at dealerships this month. The new A3 features an enhanced version of Audi connect including a 4G LTE data connection. There will be a choice of two data plans, starting at $99 for a six-month plan.
A six-month free trial period will be included on all new A3 sedans equipped with Audi connect, after which customers will have two plans to choose from: a six-month plan for $99 with 5 gigabytes of data, or a 30-month plan that includes 30 gigs for $499. Users can receive an e-mail alert when they approach their usage limit. AT&T customers also will be able to add their vehicle to their existing mobile share plan.

The new A3 will feature the most advanced version of Audi connect that will include picture navigation, read-aloud news headlines, Facebook and Twitter alerts, streaming internet radio, personalized RSS news feeds, and high-speed internet access. It also has a wireless hotspot and can be used to connect up to eight devices. A couple of notable features—reading aloud e-mail and dictating text messages—won’t be offered in the U.S., due to concerns about distracted driving.
As new or refreshed models come to market, Audi plans to roll out 4G LTE capability across its entire lineup. While Audi is first to market with 4G in the U.S., it’s not ahead by much. GM has already announced that AT&T 4G LTE embedded service—with no smartphone required—will be available on select 2015 Chevrolet, Buick, Cadillac, and GMC models. It will, of course, be faster than the 3G T-Mobile service offered by Audi and the 3G Sprint connection available with Chrysler’s Uconnect Access. And as we all know, faster is better.
