Quick news: New Ford Kuga; hybrid car sales rise; Merc plans SUV boost

Ford launches new top-spec Kuga while counting the cost of its new Focus, hybrid car sales up in Europe, Mercedes plans to take back luxury crown

New top-spec Titanium X Sport editions of the Ford Kuga are now available, priced at £28,345. The model features new 19-inch alloy wheels, a body kit, integrated sat-nav with DAB radio and Ford's Active Park Assist. Titanium versions of the Kuga have accounted for around 80 per cent of sales in its first year.

Sales of hybrid cars in Europe jumped by more than 40 per cent in 2013. A total of 214,237 hybrid cars were sold, as more drivers sought to reduce the costs of motoring. The news is a big boost for Toyota, which expects sales of its Yaris Hybrid to grow by 20 per cent in Europe this year.

*Mercedes-Benz plans to double its SUV sales in order to take back luxury car sales leadership from its German competitors. In order to claim the crown from BMW and Audi by 2020, Mercedes will look to increase SUV sales to 800,000 units, helped by the new GLA, MLC and GLC 'coupe' models.*

Ford has refused to comment on the cost of its Focus facelift. The process is understood to be one of the most expensive that the firm has ever undertaken, with costs multiplied due to the production volume of the Focus, which is built in eight global plants. Reported by Autocar 3 hours ago.
