Codan Radio Communications, a division of Codan Limited (ASX-CDA) has announced the successful deployment of their Envoy High Frequency (HF) Software Defined Radio (SDR) with a leading global humanitarian organisation.
The humanitarian organisation, with headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, provides humanitarian help for people affected by conflict and armed violence across 80 countries, with a mandate to help victims of war.
The Codan Envoy is being deployed by the organisation to provide vital communications in war torn areas with limited communications infrastructure. The Envoy HF radio ensures the safety of personnel, providing them with a reliable communication link back to base. With GPS tracking, the Envoy also helps base operations know the location of their personnel and track their movements.
With an easy to use icon based interface and quick call options, the Envoy has proven critical for communications in tense situations where reliability is vital.

The Envoy SDR supersedes the Codan NGT HF radio series, renowned for their reliability and used globally for humanitarian, security and public safety deployments.
Commenting on the success of Envoy, the humanitarian organisation is especially impressed with the evolution of the menu and icon structure from the NGT to Envoy, the backwards compatibility of Envoy with NGT and its accessories, as well as the ability for Envoy to be customized to suit specific needs, such as languages, welcome screens and complete configurability of settings.
“Envoy can be nicely customized to our needs, this means we could almost immediately switch over to Envoy [from NGT]. I am convinced of great Envoy success.”
With a software-defined architecture, Codan continues to evolve the Envoy radio to meet customer needs. Recent capability updates include an embedded MIL-STD modem for high-speed data and email, upgraded IP connectivity, USB configurability, new language upgrades and a dual antenna option.
