Chris Evans' Radio 2 breakfast show dedicated to people of Crawley This is Sussex -- THIS morning, as Crawley celebrates its 67th birthday, Chris Evans dedicated his BBC Radio 2 breakfast show to Crawley residents. Radio 2 this morning tweeted: "Today's show is dedicated to the fine folks of Crawley. "And today's show is entitled, on this day back in 1947, Crawley was declared the UK's second ever new town with a population of 9,000. "Its aim was to increase the population to 40,000. Today, Crawley sees 107,000 souls enjoying life there!" Chris Evans' show regularly attracts more than 9 million listeners. Back on January 9, 1947 Lewis Silkin MP announced that the area around Crawley, Three Bridges and Ifield had been chosen as the location for one of eight new towns. Happy birthday Crawley!
