Over 280 Lutherans gathered on November 8-9 in Des Moines, Iowa for the "2013 Lutherans For Life National Conference."
One of the speakers was conservative Christian radio talk show host Steve Deace who claimed that if there is an exception for abortion for women who are impregnated via rape or incest, that is the same as aborting babies because they are Muslim, Hindu or Jewish, noted RawStory.com (video below).
“And might I tell you if you listen to nothing else I say today, there is no such thing as pro-life with exceptions,” said Deace. “It doesn’t exist. If you’re pro-life with exceptions you’re just pro-choice with fewer choices.”
"And if you think I’m wrong, how about we put forth a pro-life bill that will save every kid but those born to Muslims?" asked Deace. "They are only 0.7 percent of the population. In fact, there are more kids conceived in rape or incest in America, about one percent, than the total population of Muslims in America.”
However, in reality there are no actual statistical numbers for incest pregnancies, noted Politifact.com, which also reported huge differences in rape-causing pregnancy stats: "Estimates of rape-related pregnancies per year vary from 3,200 to 50,000."
Also, because rape and incest are underreported crimes, there is no absolute way to track the actual number of pregnancies from either.
Deace did not cite any sources for his numbers, but continued down his road of "logic."
“We make rape and incest exceptions all the time and say those things don’t matter, so why don’t we just put forth pro-life bills that say, ‘Hey, if you’re a Muslim you can abort your kid if you want, we will let you kill it.’ Why wouldn’t we do that? Why isn’t that the same thing?” added Deace.
“In fact, there is even a historical precedent for that,” claimed Deace. “Why make exceptions for kids conceived in rape and incest, if they don’t matter, why do the Jewish, Hindu, or Muslim kids matter?”
